THE PRINCIPLES

JOE PILATES never mentioned anything about the basic principles of Pilates but we thought it would be beneficial to share a list of principles that Romana Kryzanowska came up with to accent some training techniques Joe considered essential for a proper Contrology (Pilates) session. And here they are:

CONTROL is essential for each specific movement, especially your posture and the position of your head limbs pelvis, and toes. Pilates is “The Art of Control. “

CONCENTRATION is important while performing every single exercise, in every single movement with every part of your body in order to maximize your workout.

POWERHOUSE is your center of energy. Every single movement in Pilates stems from the center of your body. Stability of the Powerhouse is achieved through special exercises in the lumbar, dorsal and abdominal region: Your Powerhouse is also called your Center or Core.

FLUIDITY and flow of motion is important while achieving "physical and mental harmony." Every movement should be like a well choreographed dance.

PRECISION maximizes your results. Every exercise in Pilates has a purpose and a goal. Honor every movement and this will help you improve on integrating all the principles to work together.

BREATHING properly helps you relax and rebuild your muscles by pumping fresh oxygen into your blood stream.
